...not sure this belongs on the album. Thoughts?
@owen
I just wrote my response and then accidentally erased it. Meanwhile Grampy came in and we discovered we had two different interpretations of the words. Interesting. My thought was I felt the new song was slightly more upbeat than the others, in message I mean, but that maybe it was good to have a slight variation in mood. I think Grampy had other thoughts about the music itself, something that I wouldn't have picked up on. What's your idea for the whole album?
@Baba I meant both musically and lyrically in terms of tone. It feels less advanced in its use of harmony and the lyrics are more optimistic.
Whole album I want something sad and happy. Wistful and optimistic.
I think part of what I was unhappy with was the production felt less polished then the other songs on the album. I cut out the solo and added some vibraphone and cleaned up the processing a bit; it feels more at home to me now.
I'm leaning towards keeping it on as an opener. Maybe start and end with happier songs and be more sad in the middle.
@owen
I'd love to hear the new version. I have no idea what else is coming on the album but my first thought about this song is it seems more a closer than an opener. The first couple are quiet and sad. The new one is more a"buck up, you're ok" song, you're having troubles but you're ok so give yourself a break.
@Baba newer version is already live. Just listen to it again. I can't end with this song it's important to me that I end with "We're Okay" it's the namesake of the album and then the last line is "we're okay"
