The latest film I am watching with my movie group is The General, a brilliant silent film from 1926 starring Buster Keaton. I highly recommend it to all of you. In reading about its production I found out the following surprising fact: much of it was filmed in Cottage Grove, OR, and included over a thousand extras from the community. Anybody here know about that?

Today was my shift as a cherry blossom volunteer docent. The main quad at the U of Washington has a wonderful collection of Japanese cherry trees.

It looks like this new method of making bagel dough pays off. Natural sourdough starter, high protein flour, diastatic malt powder, barley malt syrup—a 3-day process but worth it. Beautiful crisp crust, soft delicious interior. It actually rivals you-know-what.

I just spoke to my daughter Sharon, who grew up in Interlochen. She got very excited when I told her we were all going to stay in Frankfort. It’s her very favorite place and she loves it. There are cute restaurants, ice cream parlors, long, flat bike trails, the best beach in Michigan, a great hole-in-the-wall fish shop with awesome whitefish spread and smoked whitefish, famous sand dunes—you get the picture. It’s going to be great!

The springlike weather in Seattle have pushed the cherry blossoms on the UW campus to bloom early, and they are in full bloom and perfect.
